The Operator Control System is a web-based application that allows the system operator to control and monitor the status of software and data in the processing system. It provides the system operator with a wide range of system, process, and data statuses. The interface presents a complex array of information to the operator in a hierarchical manner that is simple to use. For example, with one glance at the first OPCon page the operator can know that the entire system is operating normally. If there is a warning or error with any aspect of the system or data, more detailed pages can be browsed to pinpoint the problem.
To control the data processing system, OPCon allows the operator to edit the control scripts that each process uses to determine how and when to run.
OPCon is also responsible for facilitating data quality assessment (QA) activities by presenting the operator with the data files that are staged to go through the QA process. The system will automatically produce images of the data and enable the operator to track problems and their resolution while working with the developers.
Once the data has gone through QA and is ready for dissemination, OPCon is used to monitor the status of the data distribution system and any processing tasks that are required to generate custom products that have been ordered. Like the operational data processing system, process and data errors will be reported by OPCon.
