CIRA will use a bridge and switching hub to control traffic into and out of the CloudSat DPC. All of the processors and network devices will reside on this isolated network, while maintaining access to the high speed Internet and Internet2 data link via Colorado State University.

CIRA will provide a 1 Gb/s LAN with a bridge to isolate the CloudSat Data Processing center from the CIRA and CSU LAN traffic. The DPC will be connected to the Internet-2 (Abilene) network, via the CIRA/CSU Atmospheric Science Department WAN router, through a fiber link to the CSU main campus (in place today).

Mass storage servers will be connected directly to the dedicated CloudSat DPC 1 Gb/s LAN.

The network server will be a PC-WIN2000 system and all hardware on the CloudSat network will be run under the Win2000 (or later)operating system. This will allow us to take advantage of the robust security and file management system provided by the Windows OS

An automated DVD storage system will be used to store all of the CloudSat raw data and products.

The high capacity network mass storage system will be used to stage data for processing and for remote on-line data access. The total on-line storage capability will be on the order of 11 Terabytes.

Data server CPU's are sized at 1.5 GHz, while science data processing CPU's are sized at 2.2 GHz.
